STEAM
EDUCATION
IN SENEGAL
Foster curiosity and critical thinking of all ages
The colonial history of Africa has led to a serious lack of scientific literacy amongst its citizens. The consequences today are fear and skepticism towards science, with people perceiving it sometimes as foreign led and irrelevant to their lives.

Our Mission
At SeeSD, we are committed to fostering Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) education, encouraging critical thinking, and scientific literacy from K-12 and beyond in Senegal.
Our Projects
By providing a hands-on approach to scientific education that engages students of all ages, and creating a platform for educators to share their knowledge, SeeSD is aiming to inspire new generations in Senegal to pursue STEAM education.
We design curricula to develop a base for critical thinking and scientific exploration. Currently, we are recruiting and training volunteers to provide hands-on STEAM education in our local elementary school or library partners throughout the year. With 55.7% literacy, these efforts are greatly needed in Senegal.
We organize events to bring STEAM professionals, educators and inventors from across Senegal together. The events will address Senegalese challenges in agriculture, energy, climate change, environment, health and gender balance in STEAM. By linking local schools and universities to other institutions in Senegal, this program will mentor students through higher education and entrepreneurship.
We partner with universities and STEAM organizations to create open STEAM educational resources that are adapted to local challenges, and translated into a local language. Creating and maintaining these resources requires extensive planning and reliable infrastructure and maintenance support. This platform will be a great resource for people to gain knowledge anytime, anywhere.
